Healthcare
Many of our students progress onto healthcare courses, including Medicine, Biomedicine, Nursing, Midwifery, Paramedic Science, Veterinary Science and Dentistry. If applying for medicine, biomedicine or veterinary science, you should study A-levels Chemistry and Biology. Many students who study BTEC Health and Social Care go on to study nursing, midwifery and other allied health degrees at university.
It is important if applying for a patient-facing healthcare related degree that you get work experience in a healthcare-setting and shadow the professional you are interested in, to enhance your understanding of the role. This will be a focus in your interview. In addition, many universities value candidates who demonstrate a commitment to service and compassion through volunteer work. Volunteering at local clinics, or care homes provides hands-on experience and insight into the healthcare environment and will allow you to demonstrate the 6 Cs of Care. In Year 12, there will be time scheduled to allow you to volunteer during our Personal Development hour.
Stay informed about current healthcare issues and advancements by following reputable news sources and healthcare journals. This knowledge will not only prepare you for interviews but also help you articulate your passion for the field.
We have a number of NHS Trusts present this evening, with professionals in a range of roles.
