Year 9 Speed Networking Event
We recently held a Speed Networking event supported by employers. Students showed very high engagement throughout the sessions, and employers were glowing in their praise for our students. The employers included a barrister, doctor, an ex-student turned architect, a lead nurse, sports programme coordinator, entrepreneurs and senior business leaders.
This event sets up our students well to think more carefully about their current post-14 career decisions, as well as work experience in February.
Transferable Skills Day 2024 - The BAFTAs
On the 17th of June, our enthusiastic Year 10 students from the Media Studies department plunged into the world of the BAFTAs. The Transferable Skills Day 2024, produced by BAFTA for The Crown Estate, was an incredible opportunity for our students, connecting them with industry professionals and insights via BAFTA’s extensive network. The event aimed to spark excitement about careers in Film, Television, and Games, showcasing the various opportunities and highlighting the transferable skills students may already possess.
Our pupils attended masterclasses from professionals across different industries, learning about the vital skills needed to enhance their employability. Hosted by presenter Lauren Layfield, the event featured a panel discussion and five key sessions.
The goal of this event was to expose our students to new realms of opportunity. Here’s what some of our students had to say:
Celebrating Windrush Day
The Mayor of Haringey, Cllr Sue Jameson, invited our pupils to celebrate the anniversary of the Empire Windrush's arrival in Britain by the raising of a flag at George Meehan House today. Our pupils, Diera Robinson , Tallulah Phipps-Paul, Kyjuan Brown, Nevaeh Russell , Arcani Martins, Ruth Tounkam and Priscilla Ndana all performed readings at the event.
Year 9 Silver Duke of Edinburgh Expedition
Our Year 10 group successfully completed their expedition as part of the Duke of Edinburgh silver award. Thankfully they had much better weather than their practice run (which was held in torrential rain). Congratulations to all involved. Please see our photos below of the brilliant expedition.
Into The Woods Jr
The Drama and Music department were delighted to present our annual School Production of ‘Into the Woods Jr’ in our enchanted open air theatre. The cast, made up of pupils from Year 7-9, rehearsed for 10 weeks to create the production and performed to over 800 audience members including some of our local primary schools, St John Vianney, St Paul's, St Gildas, St Martin of Porres and The Mayor of Haringey, Cllr Sue Jameson.
Media Trip to the BBC
On Friday 18th October, our Year 12 Media students and the participants of Ms Daniels’ Mentoring Scheme attended a BBC Young Reporter Podcasting Day. Held at the iconic BBC Radio Theatre, the event was hosted by none other than De-Graft Mensah from BBC Newsround.A standout moment was hearing from Tommy Dixon, whose award-winning podcast work has been particularly significant during Black History Month. Tommy’s podcast not only celebrates Black culture and history but also fosters essential conversations around representation and inclusion. His journey, which includes producing acclaimed programmes for BBC Sounds, BBC World Service, and Roundhouse London, deeply resonated with our students. They were particularly inspired by his ARIA Gold-winning docudrama Colouring In Britain, and his work on music documentary series Music Uncovered: The UK Garage Story, as well as Outlook, the BBC World Service's flagship life stories programme.
Tommy’s success story showed our students how creative media can be a powerful vehicle for change, especially in addressing important societal issues. His work and insights during Black History Month were not only timely but also left a lasting impression.
This trip left the students feeling more motivated than ever to explore their potential.
Media Trip to Sky Campus
On Monday 21st October, our Year 11 GSCE and BTEC Media students had on a recent trip to Sky Studios. This was truly a phenomenal opportunity, where our students were given an exclusive tour around the impressive Sky Campus, including behind-the-scenes access to Sky News and Sky Sports.
One of the most exciting aspects of the trip was the chance for our students to step into a bespoke XR studio, where they were challenged to create and pitch their own film ideas. They worked in state-of-the-art studios and green rooms, using professional-grade equipment, including £80,000 cameras, to bring their ideas to life. The hands-on experience didn’t stop there—our students also had the opportunity to edit their own work, which was later previewed for everyone to enjoy.
In addition to the practical experience, our students had the chance to meet Sky employees, gaining valuable insights into the creative industries. This trip gave them a real sense of what it’s like to work in media production and offered an inspiring first step towards their future careers.
It was an unforgettable day, and we are incredibly proud of how our students rose to the challenge and embraced the experience!
