Law
Embarking on a career in law can be both challenging and rewarding. You do not need to study Law to become a lawyer, and many lawyers come from science and humanities backgrounds and choose to take a postgraduate conversion course. When considering your A-levels, English Literature, History, Politics and Philosophy, are popular choices, helping you to develop critical thinking and analytical skills which are valued by law schools.
Our school provides strong support to aspiring law applicants, with opportunities to participate in a range of debating competitions, including the Catenian Speaking Competition and Mock Trials. In addition, in the summer term in Year 12, students have the opportunity to visit a Barristers Chamber, where they will hear from judges, barristers and law clerks and analyse a legal case study.
Gaining relevant work experience can enhance your application and give you insight into the legal profession. Many of our Sixth Form students complete the Ashurst work experience programme, but you might find volunteer opportunities at local law firms. You can also complete free virtual work placements with Springpod and Forage. The latter allows you to specialise in several areas of law, including Human Rights law and commercial law.
