Our Extraordinary Stories
Everyone at St Thomas More has their own unique and extraordinary story. Here we catch up some of our pupils on their experiences...
Meet Jennica, a current Year 7 pupil, who tells us about how she felt instantly welcomed into the St Thomas More community…
“I found the jump from primary to secondary school a little scary, especially because I was one of only four who joined from my primary school, but at St Thomas More everyone is so friendly that you immediately feel welcomed and a part of the family. What’s more, with teachers like ours all fears are taken away. They welcome us with smiles and a fun lesson ahead where we are challenged, supported and encouraged to do our best. My favourite lesson is Science because of the exciting experiments such as dissection! It has inspired me to become a surgeon in the future, not only to dissect things, but to help others in need too.”
Meet Blazej, a current Year 7 pupil who tells us about how he has settled into life at St Thomas More…
“Moving from primary to secondary school is a big jump especially because you go from being the oldest in your primary school to suddenly becoming the youngest! St Thomas More were very supportive with their transition programme, making the move feel safe and exciting; I settled into school life really quickly and made lots of friends. It is a brilliant community here. I am enjoying developing my reading and writing skills; it feels like I have learnt a lot in a short space of time! I also like the sports and activities you can participate in – there is something for everyone. I have loved representing the school in the football team and hope to one day play for Arsenal.”
Meet Nina, a current Year 8 pupil who speaks very highly of her experience at St Thomas More so far…
“If I had to describe St Thomas More in one word, it would have to be…exceptional! I have had a strong start to my secondary school journey, enjoying the multitude of opportunities the school has offered me. A big highlight so far was being cast as Matilda in the school production which was such incredible fun! I am now looking forward to upcoming international trips to Spain to practise my Spanish and to Germany with the school choir. The teachers here are so supportive and inspirational; I love how they encourage us to explore our talents. In the future I would like to be a zoologist, I aspire to be just like David Attenborough and travel the world. I am so glad I chose Thomas More – I know they will ensure that I accomplish this dream and keep me on track to achieve my goals.”
Meet Josh, a current Year 8 pupil who tells us all about why he loves being part of the St Thomas More community…
“The opportunities on offer to us at St Thomas More never cease to amaze me. We can join a sports club or team, make friends at Youth Club after school, extend our learning in Science and Maths club, or explore fascinating places like the Tower of London, museums and the London Zoo, to name just a few. Not only do these opportunities allow us to try something new, but they also allow us to make new friends across the school, develop new skills whilst also providing a balance to the challenging curriculum we follow. My favourite lesson is Science because I find it intriguing and love learning about how the world works; so much so that I would like to study the subject at university. I know my time at St Thomas More and STM Sixth Form will prepare me for this next step.”
Meet Luka, a current Year 9 pupil who juggles his studies alongside being a Liturgy prefect and participating in Cadets outside of school…
“The highlight of my time at St Thomas More is hands down being selected to be a Liturgy prefect because of my commitment to the school community. My role has grown over the years and includes organising and serving at masses as well as leading our Moment for Jesus. These experiences have helped develop my leadership skills and my ability to speak confidently in front of others which I know will help me in the future. I love the wide and diverse range of extra-curricular clubs and activities available at St Thomas More, and the dedicated time in our timetable to participate in these. Outside of school I am a member of the Combined Cadets Force which is supporting my lifetime interest and passion to join the Royal Navy in the Future.”
Meet Seryen, a current Year 9 pupil whose passion for football and undeniable skills means that he could go all the way to achieving his dream of playing professionally one day…
“Sport is my passion and the PE Department here at St Thomas More is exceptional! There are a variety of sports on offer to suit everyone’s interests and abilities. I am a member of the school football, basketball and athletics team and we are highly successful, winning trophies and tournaments every year. My experience at St Thomas More has helped mould me into both the player and person I am today. I feel I have grown in confidence and throw myself into new things and environments, tackling challenges head on. I am looking forward to joining St Thomas More Sixth Form and specialising in the subjects I enjoy with the teachers who know me so well. In the future I would love to be a professional footballer. If not, I hope to secure an apprenticeship with a big company like Apple or Samsung before owning my own business.”
Meet Precious, a current Year 10 pupil who has her sights set on joining The University of Oxford…
“It was in Year 7 that I joined the school as an eager but anxious pupil, but since then, I have learnt more than I ever thought I would. The teachers here are passionate about their subjects and make the time for every pupil, going above and beyond to get to know us all individually. They have helped me to become more confident and to aim high with my goals and aspirations – anything is possible. I hope to attend The University of Oxford after my A Level studies to read Computer Science. I am confident St Thomas More will help me achieve this, especially because of the ongoing careers support we receive. It really is amazing to be part of such a special community where every person thrives. I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Meet Julian, a current Year 10 pupil who has thrown himself into life at St Thomas More and hopes to study Medicine at UCL or The University of Cambridge…
“It is hard to pick just one highlight of my time at St Thomas More. From being the star of the school production, Sister Act to participating in the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award and belonging to the many clubs on offer, there have been so many! I am incredibly grateful to my teachers who continue to challenge and support me, not only in my studies but in all the co- and extra-curricular opportunities too. They really want to invest in your future, whatever that looks like and whatever your goals are. My ambition is to study Medicine at University College London or The University of Cambridge. I am already being prepared for this through the careers support the school provides. St Thomas More genuinely want you to be career ready and teach you the skills that universities and future employers desire. St Thomas More is a super unique school to be part of and I could not recommend it highly enough.”
Meet Yazmin, a current Year 12 student who is enjoying all aspects of life at St Thomas More Sixth Form...
"St Thomas More Sixth Form are helping prepare me for life beyond school in a magnitude of different ways. By allowing me to run my own reading club, mentor younger pupils, fulfil my role as a prefect, and perform in the school choir and productions, I feel I am adding another dimension to my personal statement and CV by developing a wide range of key skills and experiences. The school goes the extra mile to provide us with support, they even deliver interventions on Saturdays! School trips are also such an exciting part of life at St Thomas More, they make all the hard work worth it! In the future I would like to study English Literature at university with the goal of one day working in publishing and editing books.”
Meet Prince, a dedicated and enthusiastic Year 12 student at St Thomas More Sixth Form who aspires to be Head Boy…
“St Thomas More provides students with so many opportunities to help us grow as a person whilst also achieve academic success. From the extra trips and clubs to the career opportunities and experiences we are encouraged to take part in, we are being prepared for the next stage of our education or employment. I have a passion for sport and unfortunately sustained an injury recently which I needed to see a physiotherapist for. This sparked an interest to study physiotherapy at university and one day help others recover from injuries the way I received such as positive experience.”
